2020 has been an unprecedented year of challenges and we are so glad that Westmere Wines have been able to bring some happy cheer to homes across Australia during lockdowns and border closures. We would like to especially say thanks to our amazing café and restaurant owners who have continued to support us throughout the biggest challenges the hospitality industry have faced. You are such a special part of the Westmere family and we look forward to continuing to work together in 2021.

Westmere Wines is very excited to be opening a cellar door at Local Images Art Gallery in Penola in conjunction with Harriet Mort Art. Visitors will be able to taste past and current vintages of Westmere Cabernet and our current 2020 Riesling, have a chat to owners (Ec and Jack) while admiring the gallery and garden. The Cellar Door will open on Boxing Day and will be open when the Westmere sign is out on the main street of Penola. This will predominantly be on weekends (exceptions will be prior bookings).
The 2019 and 2020 Cabernet vintage has been characterised by small quantities of high-quality fruit. Small berries, great fruit concentration and lovely tannins. Warm days and cool nights provided the perfect ripening conditions. Good rainfall fell between May and September and we were one of the lucky regions that were not affected by the bush fires that occurred throughout the Australian 2019/20 summer. Our 2019 and 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is now maturing in our selected French barrels, they both will be vintages to watch out for! We could not produce our wines without the fantastic efforts of our winemaking team from WD Wines in the Barossa Valley and we sincerely thank them.
Our current Cabernet Sauvignon vintage is 2016 however the 2018 Barbs Block Cab Sauvignon is available for purchase at our cellar door in Penola. We are really happy with this elegant wine which is drinking beautifully now and like all our wines will benefit with some more time in the bottle. Westmere Wines Cabernet has received medals for the past 3 years from the Australian and New Zealand Boutique wine show and several medals in the Limestone Coast Wine show.
Our 2020 Wet Your Whistle Riesling is currently for sale and proving very popular as a summer drink of choice. The fruit for this wine has been sourced from the famous Watervale Region which is renowned for high profile Rieslings.

If 2020 has taught us anything it is to not take for granted the ability to see friends and family, share meals together, have good health, attend events and travel – all things that the Westmere Wines family will appreciate now more than ever!
